    I'd really love Marshall and Luis to spend more time on why they passed that 7th pick fireglass mentor. It seemed to me that A: that's a really strong signal that black/red specifically is open, while all they're really giving up is the clifftop lookout (existing pick in green) and bonebind orator (the pick they took instead). I understand it's a 50% chance of playing the fireglass vs 100% chance of playing the orator, but it seems to me that in limited, where getting filler is very easy, it should have been fireglass all the way. I was expecting them to slam it and say "great, we found our lane". I mean, if you don't move in after being almost mono-coloured and you see a strong signal, when do you?

      @Hanslineman День тому

      Yea it was definitely weird, especially after hearing Luis just minutes ago going on about how important later signals were because so many people had to pass on the cards. I think it was a case of not a lot of really good red pack 1? Because they say red didn’t seem particularly open but every pack after that had multiple red cards that wheeled.

    • @clancyjames585
      @clancyjames585 День тому

      @@Hanslineman I agree, I think that's probably the reason. But - I've also heard them say on various occasions that not seeing something is ambiguous, because you're not necessarily sure what's opened - but seeing something is less ambiguous, because you know it's there and hasn't been taken. I know both of them were talking about going for more of a brew that second draft - maybe they were just hoping to avoid a "boring" R/B aggro deck?

      Yes, the 2 colorless changelings are quite good with Wick, since they are both rats and snails. I had a deck once that was black-green, splashing blue, and it came up more than once that Three Tree Mascot randomly scrubbed a mana into red, allowing me to activate Wick for game-winning value.

    The one time I did an escape room with my buddy and his roommates, we managed to solve it just under the wire. Felt like a well-designed game as a result. Not everyone knowing each other well had an impact on the teamwork and communication that made things interesting, and was a great opportunity to get to know one another. Luis' strong reaction to Kara Swisher got me good. A little surprised he knows of her (not because of him, but just because she's not super well known), but NOT surprised he doesn't view her favorably. I suspect he'll feel similarly about Scott Galloway, the guy Marshall was praising. Totally understand why Marshall appreciates his perspective, but the man has a lot of terrible takes. The UN set discussion hits me really hard. The first one especially and the second one to a degree were just jokes and that was awesome once a decade. And the last 2 were balanced around the draft and included cards you could use in other formats, but, evidenced here, who is that for? I thought the 3rd in which you had to balance drafting 2 decks at the same time was novel, but WAY beyond the hoped for scope of "the joke set" and including silver border in regular Magic was a terrible idea at the beginning (Rosewater said it had been a big ask from his feedback, but that's gotta be crap.) and has proved to be so with the recent bannings. Pick your lane Wizards. Make with the funny or make drafting sets.

    • @adamgalloy9371
      @adamgalloy9371 9 днів тому

      I don't really agree with this take. Why do you assume there is no overlap between players who like funny sets and players who like to draft? Should Innistrad sets not support draft because that's not "picking a lane" between the draft lovers and the gothic horror lovers? Magic sets have always been designed around appealing to players on multiple axes (flavor, different formats, different playstyles, etc.) and since Un-sets aren't tournament legal (or even allowed in most commander pods) that's inherently more difficult to do. A dedicated draft format is kind of the only way to design a cohesive experience around them. I really liked Unstable (didn't get much of chance to play any of the others, so won't comment on their quality) and it had a good number of cards I like to throw into cubes that work well in a confined play environment even if they don't work in tournament play. Cube is a completely confined user-created environment so it seems weird to be upset about people putting Un-cards in cubes (even though I agree Unfinity putting them into eternal play was a bad idea).

    • @markbrierley6367
      @markbrierley6367 9 днів тому

      @@adamgalloy9371 I take it you didn't experience Unglued then. Many of the cards were a complete mess. It was awesome. Form over function. Little girl is a 1/2 / 1/2 for a half a white mana with mana burn still being a part of the rules at the time, though she was from Unhinged. Unstable and Unfinity swung too far in the other direction. The draft came first frequently at the expense of the jokes. A roller coaster themed card isn't a joke. Last Strike as a mechanic is more fun than funny. Catching your opponent flicking their cards to get to regrowth your hand attack spell is a funny tcg joke. I know there's overlap. But drafters get 90% of the sets catered to them. The first 2 Un sets were only for the comedy and were better for it. And there's nothing stopping you putting a creature with Denimwalk in your cube. When there was a game store in my parents' hometown the owner had a Unglued/Unhinged cube. But there is such a thing as being overserved. (OK not to a true capitalist, but you get my point and anyway those people are dicks who'd let their bar patron drive home when they were a wrecking ball.)

    • @adamgalloy9371
      @adamgalloy9371 9 днів тому

      @@markbrierley6367 IDK, I just feel like unless there is some sort of format or experience for... actually playing the cards... it's rather pointless. Draft is just the only real option I can think of since they aren't allowed in tournament play or the vast majority of Commander pods. They could also come up with something entirely new for un-sets, which might actually be pretty spicy. As you mentioned you could put them in cube, but that just feels a bit too narrow by itself to me imo. Alternatively, if there isn't going to be anything cohesive, Mystery Booster's playtest card implementation may be ideal. Just include them as an extra "Easter egg" that appears in the token slot of some sets or something like that. If all you want is a collection of random funny cards, that honestly may be a better implementation than a dedicated set. Imagine if one in every 20 Bloomburrow packs had an "un-Bloomburrow" card with a funny gift cost "Gift your sideboard", "Gift some actual food", etc.

    I'm not loving this set either...I'm normally about 62%ish average win rate...I've tanked to 55%ish with this set, the linear synergies and Archetypes really catching me out!! Maybe it's just a case of 'I gotta get good' again to start enjoying the fluffy animals...I'll dip my toe again after the rank resets me back to bronze!😂😢....P.S. Still loving the show and content...go easy on Serko😘👍

    I like how half the people in this comments section love bloomburrow with all their heart and the other half loathe it down to their very core.

      I love the art and top down design and hate how it plays, so I'm embodying that sentiment
